NZ Day 10. Farmer’s market, wine tasting and on to Wellington via Rivendell!

Sunday seemed to suggest the need to try some wines at the local wineries! The first one also hosted a farmer’s market every first sunday of the month, which this was! We chatted with one lady who was developing an olive oil business. Other stallholders were selling local limoncello, award winning marmalade, wine-barrel stave fruit bowls as well as fresh vegetables. The entertainer sang Billy Joel, Elton John and Cat Stevens. What more could one ask!

Following this we tasted wines at a couple of the wineries, but weren’t that impressed. There was one $65/bottle Pinot Noir which wasn’t bad, but at $65/bottle it would need to be pretty fantastic!
Moving on we passed over the mountains again towards Wellington and stopped at a Recreation area for lunch. But not just any recreation area, this was where the LOTR filming for Rivendell took place and we sleuthed our way to locate the site!
